The Korean Medical Device Industry Association (President Yu Cheol-wook) announced that they held the "7th Medical Device Industry Awards" ceremony on the 14th in the association's conference room, adhering to social distancing guidelines and minimal attendance for infection prevention.

Established in 2016, the Medical Device Industry Awards have been presented annually to healthcare professionals, researchers, and organizations who have contributed to the development and advancement of medical devices through creative ideas and innovation.

This year, Professor Jung Keun Hyun from Dankook University Hospital's Department of Rehabilitation Medicine received the "Grand Prize", Professor Han Se-gwang from Pohang University of Science and Technology's Department of Materials Science and Engineering was honored with the "Innovation Technology Award", and the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Advanced Medical Industry Promotion Foundation (Director Yang Jin-young) received the "Industrial Promotion Award".

Professor Jung Keun Hyun, the recipient of the "Grand Prize," developed a new artificial nerve conduit that provides nerve regeneration capabilities solely through structural means, such as connecting nerves after severe nerve damage, such as nerve transection. This contribution has played a leading role in the field of peripheral nerve regeneration and has facilitated the international market entry of domestically developed nerve conduits, thereby advancing the development of medical devices for nerve regeneration.

한국의료기기산업협회(회장 유철욱)는 지난 14일 협회 대회의실에서 사회적 거리두기와 최소한의 인원으로 방역수칙을 지키며 ‘제7회 의료기기산업大賞 시상식’을 개최했다고 밝혔다.

2016년 제정된 의료기기산업대상은 매년 창조적인 아이디어와 혁신으로 의료기기 개발 및 산업 발전에 기여한 의료인·연구자, 단체에게 상을 수여해왔다.

올해는 △‘대상(大賞)’에 현정근 단국대학교병원 재활의학과 교수, △‘혁신기술상’에 한세광 포항공과대학교 신소재공학과 교수, △‘산업진흥상’에 재단법인 대구경북첨단의료산업진흥재단(이사장 양진영)이 각각 수상의 영예를 안았다.

‘대상(大賞)’ 수상자인 현정근 교수는 신경절단과 같은 심각한 신경 손상 후 신경을 연결하는 방법으로 구조체만으로 신경 재생 기능을 부여한 새로운 인공 신경 도관을 개발했다. 이는 말초신경 재생 분야에 선도적인 역할을 하고 신경 재생용 의료기기 개발에 앞장서 국내에서 독자적으로 개발된 신경 도관의 해외시장 진출 기반 마련에 이바지했다.
